Cobalt is a very important trace element and it is also a component of vitamin B12. The health benefits of cobalt is to help body function properly. Cobalt is required by the body for red blood cells formation. The color of vitamin B12 is pink due to presence of cobalt in it.

Cobalt’s presence in foods causes hemoglobin synthesis and absorption of iron. It is also used to treat different kinds of cancer through radioactive tracer technique. Hence, cobalt is a very useful trace element. Benefits of cobalt and their deficiency symptoms are discussed in this article.

Health Benefits of Cobalt

Only small amounts of cobalt are required by the body and the amount of cobalt in food depends on the cobalt content of soil, where the food is grown.

There are no specific symptoms of cobalt deficiency as it is required by body in very small amounts. But its inadequate amount can lead to anemia as it is a component of vitamin B12. The good food sources of cobalt are pulses, some vegetables, milk, liver, clams and oysters. There is no specification of daily allowance of cobalt, but 8 mcg of cobalt is considered to be necessary for a person.
