Facts About Vitamin B
There are many variations of vitamin B and they all wok together to carry out different functions in the body. Vitamin B is essential for good toned skin, toned muscles, to have good metabolic rate, boost immune system etc. It also strengthens the nervous system, improves energy levels and promotes healthy cardiovascular system.
The food items which are rich in vitamin B are lentils, bananas, tempeh, potatoes, whole grains, green leafy vegetables, chili peppers, diary products, egg, tuna, turkey and liver.
The Vitamin B Family
The vitamin B family consists of 8 members. They are:
- Niacin
- Riboflavin
- Thiamin
- Biotin
- Pantothenic acid
- Vitamin B6
- Folic acid or folate
- Vitamin B12
Vitamin B Deficiency Symptoms
The primary vitamin B deficiency symptoms are:
- Lethargy, irritability and confusion
- Poor leg and arm coordination
- Inflammation of the eyelids
- Hair loss
- Sensitivity to light
- Inflammation of tongue
- Rashes on the skin and dry skin
- Loss of appetite
- Dizziness and confusion
- Insomnia
- Excess fatigue
- Intestinal distress including constipation and vomiting
- Muscle pain and tiredness
- Nausea
- Hallucination
- Depression
- Muscle twitching
- Dermatitis
- Cracks in the corners of the mouth
- Anemia
It is advisable to consult a doctor if you feel fatigue and irritability. Taking B vitamins dietary supplements that are water soluble will help to get the necessary vitamin B content in the body because it is not possible to have the right amount of vitamins through the daily diet. It is not advisable to have a self treatment in the case of vitamin deficiency. A physician or dietitian will be the best person to suggest the right dose.
