Nutritional yeast is similar to ‘Brewers yeast’. It is a rich source of protein and vitamin, especially vitamin B complex and is a complete protein. It is low in fat and sodium. Some brands of nutritional yeast do not have vitamin B12 in them. In such cases, Vitamin B12 is produced separately from bacteria and then added to it.

Nutritional yeast has a strong flavor which is creamy, nutty or cheesy, that is why it is the famous ingredient in cheese substitutes. It is often used by vegans in place of parmesan cheese. It is used as toppings in popcorns.

The king of dietary yeast is nutritional yeast.  It is grown either on sugar cane or on molasses or a mixture of both. When it is pasteurized the active and live part of the yeast is killed. It is then converted into powder form.

The nutritional yeast so formed contains a rich mixture of 18 essential amino acids, 15 minerals, B complex vitamins and especially B12. Nutritional yeast is a rich source of B12 vitamins as it not found in many veggies also. So, it is of high creditability.
