Prenatal vitamins are considered good for hair growth because they source of rich nutrients. These nutrients are very beneficial for growth of plants. It is believed that when a woman is pregnant her hairs grow rapidly and become long and thick. Once the baby is born the growth of hairs follow the same routine as earlier.

The reason behind this when a woman is pregnant her body produces estrogens in huge amount, it more than usual secretion. This environment of rich estrogens locks hair in growth phase only. That is why there is excessive growth of hairs during pregnancy. And once pregnancy is completed body returns to its previous state and hairs also have shedding and resting stages too.

Actually, hair growth cycle consists of three phrases- growing, resting and shedding. Each and every hair has to go through al the three phrases. At a given point of time about 90% of hairs are in growing phase. Growth phase of hairs is normally determined by their respective genes but it from 2-6 years. This can be understood as, a person whose hairs grow for 6years before entering into shedding period will grow 3 times more than a person whose hair grow for two years before entering for shedding period.

In case of Pregnancy, all the hairs which had entered into the shedding period gets locked into the growth period due to the presence of excess of estrogens and as the result the growth of hairs take place. When pregnancy is completed hairs get unlocked and return to their previous stage.
