Scientists themselves are not very sure how to answer this question. For quite a long time it was thought that vitamins help in reducing cancer risk, but new studies are saying quite the contrary. However, a proper intake of all kinds of vitamins from the natural sources vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E might make a difference in reducing cancer risk, but vitamin supplements are of no use studies show.
Can Vitamin Supplements Reduce Cancer Risk?
The study made by the Journal of the National Institute has found that women who have regular doses of vitamins C or E or beta carotene had the same risk of cancer who did not have the supplements.
Again, vitamins work differently in men and women. Vitamins do not seem to work at all in women but they show some improvement in conditions of men.
Supplements do not work as efficiently as the vitamins from fruits and vitamins do. So, it is advised that one has a well balanced diet with a variety of vegetables in it rather than having supplements.
It is now thought that vitamins will work only in people who are malnourished, not in people who already follow a proper diet regime.
Recent studies found some evidence that having vitamin E may lessen colon cancer risk and beta carotene was related to a humble decrease in lung cancer risk. Scientists are hopeful about getting some real path breaking evidence soon. As of now keep on taking vegetables and fruits because they will give you other nutrients like antioxidants.
